Mdm Ong Ah Mui (Vincent Lim’s mother)

My 93-year old mother, Mdm Ong Ah Mui, was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 14 Sep 2023 after she experienced vomiting and severe abdominal pain.

The family decided against the option of an operation because of the high risks involved due to her old age coupled with multiple health issues. Without surgery, she was given at most another week as her digestive and respiratory systems shut down. But God in His mercy and grace miraculously extended her life on earth. Her doctors were pleasantly  surprised when her condition improved day by day till her discharge one and a half week later.

Looking back, I witnessed for myself God intervening and leading my mum to finally being baptised on 19 Sep 2023 while she was still warded in hospital. Though both my parents practised ancestral worshipping, my mum has always believed that our God is larger than the deities she believed in. She was actually torn between wanting to be in heaven together with my youngest sister, Gina, who was called home to the Lord in July 2022 and being reunited with my late dad in the afterlife.

God removed this stumbling block when the Holy Spirit prompted my wife Mei Lee and I to assure her that we will bring out my dad’s ashes from the temple and to buy a family niche in Mandai Columbarium so that they could be together when the time comes. This breakthrough gave her the peace to immediately accept Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. Frankly, I was unsure whether the transfer was even possible in the first place.

God sent our eldest daughter Charmaine’s polytechnic friend to help complete the transfer within two days! Even more amazingly, we managed to book a niche in the same block, same floor, and same row where my sister’s niche was. Indeed, God fulfilled my mum’s wish for the three of them to be together in one single stroke.

Praise The Lord!

To the family, this whole episode of my dad’s ashes moving out from the temple and to be placed side by side with my mum is a symbolic affirmation that our plea for God to forgive him for not heeding His warning in Hebrews 4:7 “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart” had been answered. I recalled our family, together with Dr and Mrs Leong, pleading with God to give him a second chance in heaven when we bade him a final farewell at Mandai Crematorium. I remembered struggling with God on this episode in my bulletin article written in Year 2014.

Many in church came alongside us upholding us in prayer during that difficult period, and we continue to pray that the Lord will use my late dad and my mum mightily as His witness to testify to others who may be struggling through similar issues. Let them also respond to God’s invitation to enter into His rest by seeking His forgiveness and  placing their trust in Christ Jesus.

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. (Micah 7:18)
