Date: 7 April 2024
This sermon is Part 10 of a 24-part series on John
1. Jesus, the Word Became Flesh
2. Jesus, the Lamb of God
3. Jesus, the Nazarene King
4. Jesus, the Winemaker
5. Jesus, the Holy Temple of God
6. Jesus, God’s Only Son
7. Jesus, the One who comes from heaven
8. Jesus, the living water
9. Jesus, the Savior of the world
10. Jesus, the Healer of diseases Discussion Reflection Question:
1. When Jesus promised the official that his son lives and instructed him to return home, we're told that the man "believed the word" (John 4:50). When he subsequently learnt from his servants of the exact hour his son recovered, we're told "he himself believed (v 54). What do you think these two responses reflect of the man's faith journey?
2. Consider the conduct of the man who was healed at Bethesda. He expressed no gratitude to Jesus. Neither was there any response recorded when Jesus told him to "sin no more" (John 5:14). Instead, he reported Jesus to the Jewish leaders who then persecuted Jesus. What do these reveal about the man's attitude to Jesus?
3. What do the accounts in this passage reveal about who Jesus is and Hispurpose? Why is it crucial to come to believe in Jesus for who He is, rather than for what He can do for us in life's crises?
