Lent Reflection Week 2
AFFLICTED AND BROKEN
The fiery orange background, and the crown of thorns that pierced the forehead of Jesus are symbols of the intense suffering our Lord had to endure in his body.
Afflicted and broken, this is the way chosen by God for His Son.
Do you see God’s purpose in your trials or is your faith taking a beating
This passage is familiar to us but read it at least twice, slowly.
Then pause and know the Holy Spirit is present with you.
When you are ready, move on …
John 19:1-3 (ESV)
Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. 2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. 3 They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands
Think about the trials in life …
(take about 5 min with each question)
- Recall a difficult time in your life; in the past,
present or one you are anticipating. - What are some emotions you struggled
with during such times? Anxiety? Loneliness? Disappointment? Fear? … - How have these situations impacted your faith in Christ?
Reflect and talk to Jesus in prayer:
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see
how Christ has suffered for you.
Respond to Jesus in prayer.
