An update on 2018 Church Emphasis: Missional
We desire to be a Go and Come church. To intentionally go out and make disciples for Christ (light of the world) and also be an appealing community that draws men to Christ (a city set on a hill).
L.E.A.P. in Love (Go)
In February and March the L.E.A.P. in love campaign stirred us to be intentional and proactive in reaching out to others for Christ through simple love gestures like listening to them, eating with them, performing acts of kindness and praying for them.
Life Question Series (Come)
In April, our pulpit addresses life questions like “Does God exist?” “Why does evil and suffering exist?” “Is the Bible trustworthy?” and “Does Jesus matters?” Members were encouraged to invite their friends. We also publicized the series to the neighbourhood around us. We desire to be a church where seekers may come and find salvation in Christ!
Good Friday & Easter Evangelistic Services (Come)
Our annual Easter Service is always an outreach platform to proclaim the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Outreach Equipping Workshop (Go & Come)
If we truly want to be a community through which God will bring men to Himself, we must be ready to be His instrument to help a seeker know Him more or to help a new believer grow in His faith. I am delighted that in March, about 40 of us signed up for the outreach workshop to know how to walk alongside a newcomer and help them know or grow in Christ. May God see that our hearts are yearning and our hands are ready for the harvest!
Community Outreach (Go)
Our community outreach arm, Bless Community Services continues to run services like legal clinics, community talks and counseling services for the public. Volunteers among us serve in these platforms. In February, we went out as a church to visit the HDB neighborhood and blessed them with mandarin oranges. We will continue our neighborhood visitation in May and October this year. Our desire is to meet their needs sincerely, exhibit Christian love and build relational bridges for the gospel.
Mid-Size Groups (Come)
Our Youth Ministry conducted their Life Questions Series in April as well. Our seniors in Palm Green Fellowship had an outing in March to build relational bridges. Other mid-size groups in our church are also engaged in outreach efforts.
Cross-cultural Mission (Go)
Beyond the shore, sister YL continues to serve faithfully in Rafiki, Uganda. JC, SC and family had sought the Lord together with the leaders and are seeking to extend their stay in Central Asia for another 5 years. Our missionary candidate Sister YH has just finished 6 months of language study in preparation for long-term mission work.
Our mission committee is working conscientiously with our overseas mission partner to establish long-term mission work in a particular town in South Asia. If the Lord wills, we desire to plant a church in that region in the near future.
Since the beginning of this year, the trumpet is sounding: “let’s be missional!” Did you hear the trumpet sound?
- Let us continue to L.E.A.P. in love! Though the campaign may be over, it is meant to initiate an outreach momentum in us that will not ease off. Let us remember to be the light of the world everywhere God has placed us in.
- Let us participate in church outreach efforts. Join BCS as volunteers in legal clinics and community talks etc. Let us participate in the forthcoming BCS neighborhood visitations in May and October.
- Let us give generously! Give to the general fund in support of all the outreach efforts by various ministries of the church. BCS is currently supported by the church’s general fund. Give also to the mission fund in support of our missionaries in the field and also our mission venture in South Asia.
- Finally pray, pray, pray! Pray that we will be a Go & Come church. Pray for the outreach platforms and efforts of the church. Join us at Prayer Core on Sunday (9.15am – 10.45am) to pray for world mission, the world and the lost, community outreach and the ministries of the church.
Today is our Baptism Service, we rejoice that 10 brothers and sisters will be baptizing today and 6 will be transferring their membership to the church. As we rejoice and celebrate, let us be reminded of the sacred commission given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:18b-20)
